for my animated gifs? I always make the gif in Illustrator and then take it into ImageReady to animate it, but lately I have been seeing these amazing effects where the gifs look like they’re sparkling-can someone tell me how to do this? –Sara

ps- I had originally posted this in the Illustrator forum but someone suggested I psot it her instead. Here is a link with an example of what I want to achieve: go to link, scroll down under Coming Soon, I want to accomplish th effect on the turkey wings and buckle on the pilgrim’s hat.

download that GIF and look at it in Image Ready. You’ll see how simple it is.

Ok, presenting my stupid untechnical self – do you mean right-click and "Save Picture As" /c when I do that, it saves it as a bitmap and not a gif
Thanks!

…when I do that, it saves it as a bitmap and not a gif

Curious. When I did the same thing it shosed as happythanksgiving.gif.

If it shows as happythanksgiving.gif trying changing the .bmp to .gif and see what happens. Or try the complete URL to the image and save using File>Save Page As.

Mindthe warp.

It’s a simple three frame .gif and you will be able to see how the effects are acheived.

Yes… right click and Save Picture As… worked fine for me… have it on desktop now…. (presume "Spoilers" was what you wanted?). If it still doesn’t work for you, email me and i’ll mail it to you.

Cheers…

Original posting stated:

"I want to accomplish the effect on the turkey wings and buckle on the pilgrim’s hat."

No wings or hats in the spoilers image, but it’s an even simpler 2 frame gif.

Ok, I couldn’t do the "Save Page As" but when I did "Save Picture As" and opened it in PS, then in ImageReady, I only see the one image, and don’t see the two frames you’re talking about. Sorry, guess I’m dumber than I thought. I mean, I can see form the animation it’s just two separate transitions or movements but don’t I have to illustrate what they’re using for the "sparkle" and move it b/c that seems painstaking and y’all are saying it’s simple so I’m confused

Thanks for the help! Can I have some more? ;)–Sara

Sara,

No use opening animated GIF’s in Photoshop – you HAVE to use ImageReady. If you open one in PS and Save it from there it won’t be animated anymore….and will only have one layer

Open it in ImageReady straight after downloading it. You will see two layers in the Layers palette and two frames in the animations palette.

Don’t open it in photoshop first. Launch image ready, then open the Gif. And give the F1 key a try and search for animated gif’s in image ready <wink>

animation it’s just two separate transition…

Acutally the Thanksgiving image is three frames, as I previously stated.

Another thing you can do, that may help you see it better is open the .gif in Image Ready – directly, not through Photoshop as the others have pointed out. Then, go to File>Save as and save it as a Photoshop PSD (not save as optomized). Now open that PSD file in Photoshop and you will see the three layers that make up the animation. Study the little "stars" and notice that their size and position and colour are altered and adjusted.

I’m so sorry, y’all! Thank you Jay for sending those pics – I was wanting to see how to accomplish the other gif, further down, the one that says "Happy Thanksgiving" I wanted to see how they make that glitter effect on the turkey’s wings – it looks like it’s a different filter applied than what the "Spoilers" gif has, if it is a filter. Thanks again, this one opened in two frames and layers; I’m wondering why the one I want doesn’t. Thanks again for your help, though!

I don’t know what the deal was with how I was downloading the gif, but Jay sent me one (thanks Jay!) and it opened with 3 frames and layers so just wanted to say thanks for everybody’s help!
