Hey Folks,

Here’s an odd one…but I’m betting it is unique to me, or a very select few others who I’ve not heard from but who might be toying with Photobars for Extensis PhotoTools in PS CS.

I believe it is twice or perhaps three times now over the past few days that I have selected the Help menu, only to see Photoshop close down as if it was never open….very, very quickly. I’ve not really absorbed enough to remember just exactly what else I might’ve been doing at the time, because this has been so rare that it always catches me off guard. But, I think there was one instance where I actually had a file open that an edit of some sort had been performed on, yet this abrupt close still occurred without so much as a prompt to save.

As I work to prepare Photobars CS, I have encountered some instances of the Extensis menu not appearing upon PS CS startup, which is a familiar problem that occurred with PS7 also. Fortunately, Extensis did an update of PhotoTools 3.06 for PS7 which corrected that problem. Unfortunately, a fellow PhotoBars user forwarded an e-mail to me from Extensis in which they informed him PhotoTools has been discontinued and will not be supported for PS CS. Luckily PhotoBars works with PS CS but how reliably is an unanswered question at present.

Now, given the problems with the Extensis menu that I’ve seen in PS CS and knowing that menu is inserted between the Window and Help menu, I’m curious if something about that process could corrupt accessing the Help menu and cause PS CS to shut down? While I have other plug-ins installed, PhotoTools would be the one most suspicious since it does modify the PS GUI.

So, that’s my long-winded way of asking for a quick poll of PS CS users to see if anyone has seen any occurrence of this problem? If so, do you have PhotoTools installed?

Second, I don’t want any Adobe folk to waste time trying to figure out what might be happening here, but if just an educated guess suggests to you that the insertion of the Extensis menu could trigger such a problem, I’d appreciate a comment on that.

As I stumble across nuisance problems like this, I’m hopeful to learn how I might duplicate them so that I can try and nail down if PhotoBars is the problem cause. That way, I can inform those who use PhotoBars CS of potential conflicts.

Thanks for any help,

Daryl
