I have been unable to save a scan. I keep getting the "there is not enough free memory available to save the scan" I have a few choice words about that. I’ve got 1gb of ram and my primary scratch disk has over 4gb of free space. I’m blowing up a b&w pic and scanning from 800 – 1200dpi and I get the error msg when I try to save. Am I missing a setting or what? This system let me do the exact same scan type minutes before and I was able to save no problem. But now it’s just no go. I’ve re-booted several times and changed the amount of ram that PS uses. Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Billy,

What kind of scanner are you using? And how are you scanning? I’m presuming that you’re scanning through Photoshop’s Twain interface, but you could also be scanning though the scanner software-I just want to clarify that.

There could be a few things causing you to have difficulty saving. Your specific scanner information my shed some additional light on why you’re having problems… but then again, it might not. So here are a few things to check on:

1) Do a search for *.tmp files and delete any that are found on your computer. These can eat up scratch disk space and cause similar errors as you are describing.

2) If you’re on a WinNT, 2K or XP system, also do a search for *.dmp files and delete those from your system.

3) Check to see that you are using the latest patches and updates for both Photoshop and your scanner.

4) Find a live chicken and sacrifice it as an offering to the Scanner God designated for your specific make of scanner.

5) If you have any diagnostic software like Norton Utilities, run it and fix and problems it finds. Other software like Cleansweep might help clean up any other unneeded files on your system.

6) Defrag your drive.

Hope some of this helps.
