Daniel,
Let’s just restate this once more…although it shouldn’t be necessary given all the other postings on this topic, unless you truly have some new problem that hasn’t been accounted for. There are currently two known causes for the CTRL key not working:
1. An activation "crack" (a software patch to bypass or defeat activation) has been installed. Shortly after the release of PS CS, such a crack was circulating on the web and it was found to corrupt the CTRL key functionality.
2. Some keyboard drivers appear to be creating a problem. I believe it was stated as being that the Logitech "Freedom" keyboard was one culprit and that updating the driver for it resolved the problem.
Now, what you’ve stated definitely suggests you are running PS CS with an activation crack installed, knowingly or not. From what I’ve seen of the crack, it does three things…it bypasses the activation dialog from appearing initially upon startup of Photoshop, it causes the problem with the CTRL key, and selection of the Activation option from the Help menu gives no response, presumably because the crack has bypassed that process somehow. That last situation sounds like what you have encountered. If you’re the only one with access to your system and for installing PS CS, then you should know what was or wasn’t done and the remedy should be pretty clear.
Regards,
Daryl
