I just reformatted my computer and installed photoshop but for some reason I can’t use the keyboard for shortcuts such as Ctrl S for saving, Ctrl 0 for fit on screen, the arrow keys for nudging selection are not working either. However I can us the keyboard to switch tools. I’d appreciate any help to solve this problem. Thanks.

I assume you are referring to Photoshop CS. If so you either need to reinstall your keyboard drivers or get yourself a legal copy of Photoshop. If it’s an earlier version, please let us know.

It seems there are more people out there complaining about the keyboard shortcuts who are presumably using an illegal version of PSCS than there are like me complaining about having to have the activation.

So I suppose Adobe has a point – sigh

Sure they do, piracy is a real problem. BUT, you will notice it is NOT the registered/loyal/activated users that are having the majority of the problems, yet those are the ones that stand the potential to be the most inconvienced by the activation scheme!

I still believe that the lion’s share of the pirated copies will be from the corporate arena which does NOT have the activation scheme.

Perhaps they read the forums before posting questions. Perhaps they wait for the .01 patch before upgrading.

Just to add a bit of clarification, at least as I understand things, the CTRL key problem isn’t necessarily with illegal copies of PS CS. Rather, it may be with those but also with perfectly legal copies to which the activation crack has been applied. In my opinion, use of such a crack on one’s properly purchased software is not illegal. What is illegal is if they they attempt to distribute copies of the software with the crack included.

Ooops…before anyone else gives me a technical foul on that last comment, I’ll correct myself: What is illegal is if they attempt to distribute copies of the software, period.

Well now that’s interesting… Am I the only one who sees the Adobe Logo at the top of the forum?

Daryl

Read your license agreement. I am pretty sure there is something in there that says you may not alter the source code of the product without Adobe’s permission. Applying the patch is precisely that.

Don,

Good point..it probably does say that, I just wasn’t looking at the EULA at the time. Regardless of that however, I have no qualms about using an activation crack on legally-owned software if use of the crack isn’t being exploited for the sake of software piracy AND so long as the PC on which it is installed is a personal system that is not part of a business network or available to multiple users. As with many other rules, some are made to be broken…just so long as doing so doesn’t risk a cost to someone else. I expect I’ll eventually activate my desktop installation of PS CS but the jury is still out on my laptop, which I’ve yet to even install PS CS on.

I don’t have Photoshop CS, but I doubt it comes with the source code, so modifying it is pretty much a non-issue.

Applying the patch is precisely that.

It’s likely that a patch doesn’t even touch the program. Again, I’ve not seen any Photoshop patches. It likely changes how the world looks to the program, by means of a wrapper.

The CTRL fix is moot now, since the original code thieves have corrected their patch (again, I haven’t seen the corrected patch, but I have read about it). The flood of folks complaining about broken keyboards from now on will be smaller, mostly Logitech keyboard users.

The patch did modify the installed code and does violate the license agreement.

The patch did modify the installed code…

Then they’re dumber than I thought.

I recall a program that I wrote (which was un-hackable), had a crack-wrapper written by the bad guys. Before I had seen the crack, I had done a simple little running change that accidentally broke their crack.
