No Pope, any data used by activation that is associated with internal components can be detected automatically.
Daryl
no. just cs’s serial # (and a previous full version of photoshop’s # if your CS is an upgrade).
Thanks, Daryl…wonder how they can do that over the phone? Probably doesn’t matter. I’ll make the call.
Thanks, Dave…should be easier than I was led to believe after struggling through all the Activation threads 🙂
my activation was easy peasy lemon squeasy.
here’s the info I posted back when I installed cs:
Setup ran for 4.75 minutes including activation. Activation by itself ran for a total of 12 seconds. Start PS. Register w/adobe.
TOTAL TIME FROM POPPING IN THE DISK TO FULLY USABLE/REGISTERED CS INSTALLATION:
5.5 minutes.
Good question Pope, regarding activation by phone. As I’ve yet to activate, I’d assume that if you select the phone option, you are likely presented with a code to provide which would still be generated based upon system hardware IDs.
Pope and Daryl
I activated by phone with MS Office. The program reads the computer and gives you a string of about 80 random numbers (seriously, I think it was 16 sets of 5 digits) and you read them into the phone … a voicemail, not a person. It then reads you back an activation code.
I assume the Adobe system will be identical or similar.
It will be much easier online.
I had assumed the same based upon WinXP’s activation, Don. I do everything online anyway, so I’d be doing the same when I activate PS.
Is it adviseable to disable fire walls (mine is Zone Alarm Pro) and anti-virus (Norton 2003) before activating? Thanks.
Don…you have really convinced me not to use the phone for activation…80 random numbers OUCH! I have a slow southern drawl and it would take me forever 🙂

I didn’t. zone alarm standard, norton av 2002.
You should not need to de-activate firewalls or anti-virus software before activating.
