After I launch Adobe Photoshop ver 7.0, I receive a ERROR SIGNATURE message that, when closed, shuts down the Photoshop application. I have tried numerous "fixes" but am still unable to launch Photoshop without receiving the same ERROR SIGNATURE message followed by Photoshop closure. I have searched the MS Knowledge base as well as that Adobe Knowledge base and can find no solution.

Frustrated.
Thank you.

Have you tried resetting your preferences per the procedure in the faq? If that doesn’t work, I’d reinstall.

No, I have not. How do I find that procedure here?
Thank you.

I’ve done this several times and the ERROR SIGNATURE message still appears. The preferences file WAS reset and I also received the following Adobe Photoshop warning message:

"You currently have Adobe Photoshop’s primary Scratch and Windows’ primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is recommended that you set Adobe Photoshop’s primary Scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferably on a different phytsical drive".

Should I make this change and if so how?

Byron,

Should I make this change and if so how?<<

If you have more than one drive, doing so should result in better performance. You set the Photoshop Primary Scratch drive from Edit>Preferences>Plugin and Scratch Disk

I could try that if I could launch Photoshop. However, the program closes immediately after posting the ERROR SIGNATURE message. I am out of luck.

Byron,

The message is NOTHING whatsoever to do with Photoshop not launching – forget it until you sort your main problem…

Sooo…

Do an uninstall from C/Panel >Add Remove programs. Delete the whole of your Photoshop folder tree. Do a system wide search for *.tmp files and delete them. Delete the prefs file again – an uninstall will NOT delete that.

Re-boot the machine and re-install

I installed Photoshop after ripping out the HP scanning software. The program launches fine and stays open without crashing or any error messages now–however, the IMPORT function does not "see" the HP1100Axi scanner. What would you suggest at this point? The HP 1100Axi is probably 2-3 years old.

You need to uninstall PS7, reboot and install it again.

Done, 4 times, no diff result. The problem is that the HP scanner software is not supported by WIN XP. Or should I say HP does not support WIN XP with my 1100Axi. And no reply from HP either on the subject—they are as silent as a tomb in Egypt. When I uninstall the HP scanner software, PSP ver 7 loads and launches perfectly.

If the program shuts down before the final loading stages, you could try (PC) hitting Ctrl,Alt,Shift, (all at the same time) immediately when the progam starts to load. follow prompts to reset preference files

Adobe gives you complimentary support for a few months if that helps.
