Ok, I have several layers in a new PS CS document….I make one layer active that contains a "rivet" shape. I do a "select all" and "copy". Then I "paste" hoping to get a duplicate rivet on a new layer….(this is how it worked in PS 6).

But I get no new/additional rivet and no new layer….is this a problem with CS or can you direct me as to how to make duplications properly? Thanks a ton for your help.

Tom,

are *any* of your control functions working? Such as ctrl+A, ctrl+V etc?

The cause of the ctrl key not working has been attributed to one of two things,
1) a bad keyboard driver (has been noted on some Logitech and wireless MS keyboards)
2) a crack patch that is designed to bypass the activation scheme.

If it’s the keyboard, see if you can get new drivers and hopefully that will fix the problem.

If it’s the crack, you must remove it.

Let me make this clear: I have a legitimately purchased and ACTIVATED version of Photoshop CS. Why would you intimate I may be using a "cracked" version when I mention nothing about having problems with "control" key functions???!!! 🙁

I figured a better way of copying image layers by ALT+dragging a new copy….but still, I ask: Why can’t I copy and paste a layer image like I used to in version 6????

Thanks.

Tom,

please don’t take offense, I was simply outlining the issues we have seen in this forum. There are numerous posts related to the control key not functioning and it has been related to one using, perhaps even without their knowledge, a cracked version of PSCS. I made an assumption, which sounds to be incorrect, that you were using the keyboard shortcuts of ctrl+A, ctrl+C and ctrl+V for select, copy and paste. If you were using those shortcuts and they are not working, perhaps you can check to see if there are updated drivers for your keyboard.

Again, I was simply providing information to you, not accusing. 🙂

Tom,

It is working EXACTLY as did in PS6/7 here……

Have you tried trashing your prefs file?

Grasshopper – sorry if I went off the deep end…I’ve seen the gazillion posts on the piracy thing…just didn’t want to get lumped in with the "crack-heads". 🙂

Len – can you give me an exhaustive step-by-step on trashing the prefs file? And, what exactly does this do? It won’t cause any problems doing this? Thanks.

Hold down the alt+ctrl+shift keys immediately after launching the program. When asked if you want to delete your PS settings file say yes.

This will set Photoshop back to its factory defaults.

Ok…well let me help make a typical Monday of it…;-)… I trashed my Prefs as instructed, but I can’t seem to locate my startup file so I can re-customize it…any ideas? Thanks.

The prefs are created and resaved every time you open and close the app.

Ok…cool. This operates a little differently than Illustrator’s startup files then. I can deal with that. Have a good one.
