I have just built a new PC with an Abit KV8 motherboard, Athlon AMD 64 1Gb DDR memory and 120GB raid drive. It is working fine, and I had installed my version of Photoshop 6 no problem. I just bought from Amazon the CS upgrade and it won’t install after many attempts. It always fails catastrophically when it tries to load the win files, particularly :-

C\Windows\Twunk_16.exe

I use the serial number that came with the upgrade and not the PS 6 one that installed ok.

Greatful for any help that can be provided

Thanks Mick

First of all, clean out any temp files that may have been left from the failed installs. Then copy the installer to the harddrive and try installing from there.

I think that file is used for windows TWAIN fuctions. Have you installed any TWAIN apps — particularly for old equipment? Might try uninstalling or refreshing these.

Is your system multi-boot? If so:

It sounds like PS is trying to load drivers from a conflicting version ( different OS ). If you still have Windows98 on your system, you may have to hide it before installing PS to WINNT5x. It’s probably a Microsoft bug.

In Win2k/XP you can hide partitions by unmounting them with teh disk management snap-in under Computer Management, under Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

Also, in this situation, it is best to install all windows versions to separate logical psrtitions, and NONE of them to drive C:.

Drive C: should only be a boot partition, and may contain a basic DOS, like MS-DOS or PC-DOS, but no windows shells. Did you know, that even putting a stray NT5x kernel file in c:\ will prevent Windows98 from starting? Try it. Win98 will CRASH just before the GUI loads. It definitely is a Microsoft bug.

Make a new logical partition, reinstall Win9x to there, and do the same for WinNT5x. Then, install PS.

I use the serial number that came with the upgrade and not the PS 6 one that installed ok.

Maybe I should ask Radio Shack. They claim they’ve got answers; but frankly, if Radio Shack were our provider, we’d _really_ be in trouble now, wouldn’t we?
