Sigh. I own a ViewSonic Graphic Series 17" monitor which has just shot itself after 6 years of faithful service (while, for $900CDN, I expected a bit longer life from it). So, needless to say, I am shopping for a new display. However, when I began my quest, I was immediately intimadating by the number of options available and the lack of reviews, etc., to help me out.

So, I was wondering if anyone here would care to recommend a good graphic/pro series monitor? I guess I am looking for a 19" / 21" CRT Monitor with an optimal resolution of 1600×1200 (with a high refresh rate), but capable of going to 2048×1536 (or there abouts). Any recommendations?

BTW, is ViewSonic a good name? I thought so, so perhaps I just had bad luck with my current monitor?

Thanks everyone!

I am more than happy with my Sony G520. I recently picked up a comparable SGI monitor (made by Sony) for $250Cdn and have a great dual 21" display going on.

I have a view sonic flat panel on my desktop that I bought 4 years ago. I love it, I have never had any problems with it. I bought it because I had been told View Sonic makes great monitors.

I have not done any research on the market to compare today’s monitors. Also I am a casual user – not a professional in graphical design.

Cheers,

Trevor, form what I’ve heard from the pros, the Mitsubishis 2070sb and 930sb are really good, they sell tubes for Lacie (very good too, and possibility to get calibration devices) the very high end now, is the Sony artisan, with integrated calibrator, for around 1.800 US$…
I’m still undecided between 2X 19" or 1X 22"

Trevor,
With today’s technology you would be better off asking who has had a problem with what brand. Almost all monitors, today, are great. After making the binary decision of CRT or LCD, the user’s choice basically gets down to the trade-off of cost and what screen size the user wants.

There are a few monitors that do not preform well. These are the ones you need to know about.

is ViewSonic a good name?
"6 years of faithful service" is a good service record. Keep good thoughts about it. In Minnestoa, mine usually start "snapping" during high humidy after a few years. (I know, "clean the dust out"). At least the optical mouse solved one cat hair problem.
