I took a picture of a piece of jewelry on white paper using my Nikon coolpix 4300 and loaded the picture on my computer. The background came out gray. I would like to change all the gray background to white. I wish to load my picture on my web site so that it will blend into the white background for a clean look. I am trying Adobe photoshop 7.0 and have no idea how to do this.

A quick way would be to go into Curves, click on the white eyedropper and then click on the gray area that’s supposed to be white. This will reset the white point for the image. To be safe, also use the black eyedropper and click on the blackest point of the image to reset the black value.
