I recently installed a Canon i960 photo printer, and images that used to print color-accurately on my Epson, are now off – both with Photoshop 5 and Photoshop 7. I don’t think its the printer, but rather, something to do with the color space or profiles.
Interestingly, with PS-5, the drop-down menu of available color spaces lists 4 Canon i960 entries: Something like Canon i960 SP1, Canon i960 MP1, etc. What are these and where did they come from?
Canon claims they didn’t provide them, and Adobe didn’t provide them since this printer only just came out within the past few months.
Choosing the different profiles does impact the print colors, but none of them produces correct colors.

Any suggestions, other than to purchase profiles specifically for this printer? I’d do this, but I don’t think this is the problem – the colors are way off (blues appear green) and not just slightly off. Also, the colors are more accurate when the image is printed from other simpler applcations.

Additional info: The display colors are correct, so this is not a display calibration problem. The image was scanned from a color-calibrated film transparency. The transparency color is correct, the scanned image color is correct, the printed color is wrong.

Jon,
I’m not at all familiar with your printer driver, so I’ll be general and maybe we can get better results.

Set your Canon driver to its best quality for the paper you’re using, and automatic mode , if it has such a thing.

Then , using Print Preview in Photoshop, print to the "Printer Color Management" output space profile. This should allow the Adobe Color Engine (ACE) to translate from your working space ( I hope AdobeRGB or BruceRGB , for an inkjet ) to the printer’s colorspace. See how it prints.

🙂

I use that Epson printer.
I have Photoshop Working space set to sRGB IE 61966-2.1
I have Epson Print Space Profile to same setting and colours match up extremely well.

Epson??? I was talking about a Canon i960 – is that what you meant? If so, can you tell me how your driver is set? Do you have ECM enabled? Do you have the four Canon i960 xxx color profiles on your system? Do you know what they are? Jon.

Opps. Sorry. I meant Canon. Maybe your mention of the Epson caused a little synapse short.
But…the other little glitch is that I have a Canon i950 not i960. I should pay more attention.

No problem… happens all the time here 😉

I suspect the 950 and 960 are very similar.
The sRGB is a screen/display profile. What do you use for the printer settings? Jon.

I suspect the 950 and 960 are very similar.

Glancing at the specs for both printers I couldn’t really see what the difference were between the two other than the fact that the 950 cost more.

What do you use for the printer settings?

Print Space Profile: sRGB IE 61966-2.1
Intent: Relative Colorimetric
