hi,

I’m having a nightmare converting a illustrator layout (which include text) into photoshop path?

The scenario goes like this:-

I’m doing my WIP in illustrator. Everything goes fine until i need to add effect into the text. So, i need to transfer the file to photoshop with the same layout and position. I select the text by ctrl+click on the layer and convert the text into path first. But the problem is, the path didn’t seem accurate or i would say that it didn’t follow the shape of the text. It’s obviously look out of the shape. How could this be? Anyone, could you please help me out? I’m getting burst off… have been trying a lot, but still failed…

Thank you…

Hey Kyle,

The secret is to convert your text to paths in Illustrator first (Shift + Ctrl + O) and copy to the clipboard.

Then, switch to Photoshop and hit Paste (Ctrl + V). You’ll be prompted with a dialog box asking if you want to paste the clipboard contents as Pixels, Paths or Shape Layer. Choose Paths.

This will give you an unfilled, base set of paths to work with that exactly match the Illustrator text you copied. You can then create a new Photoshop layer, fill the paths with whatever color you wish and then apply filters and effects to your heart’s content.

Hope that helps.
