Situation: I’m trying to determine which Digital Video Editing software to get as a beginner (Adobe Premiere, Vegas 4, etc) that will allow me to do the following. Let’s say I have a VHS tape and I get it into my workstation via analog to DV conversion; before I record it to DVD/CD, I want to manipulate human images (change shape, size, and presentation of objects).

Questions In General: 1) What software can be used to manipulate the size, shape, and presentation of 2D human images? 2) How do I determine which applications will allow me to do this well? 3) Also, can a 2D human image be manipulated into a 3D representation of that 2D image?

Question 1 Example: Take an existing 2D set of video frames and enlarge/decrease size of just the hand, arm, head, eyes, or feet of a person in the scene?

a. What is this called?
b. What software is used?
c. Would it be a basic function of all the following types of applications (Adobe Premiere, Vegas4, etc)?
d. Would the manipulation have to be performed on each captured frame or can this be automated in some way?

Question 2 Example: Take an existing 2D image and change it’s presentation/profile; the existing 2D image is of a person standing and facing the camera, how could that be change to a right/left profile of the person’s image?

a. Where or how might "morphing" come into this?
b. How do I determine what applications allow this to be done well?
c. What is the terminology?
