CS very slow opening & not as fast as 7 processing

I just wanted to add my 2 cents that Photoshop CS is slow on my system as well. I’m on w2k pro, sp4, 512 mg ram, 52 gigs free.
It takes about way to long to open, and longer than 7 to process. Read a couple of posts below that were not pertinent, as I do not have Illustrator CS, and Allow Background Processing is already unchecked. I’m not complaining about the file browser speed perse, which is very, very slow until thumbnails are generated, as you can’t ask for everything, and Photoshop is a fabulous program, but the slow opening and processing are definitely bothersome. Has anyone found a solution?

Not really, as I am encountering the same problem ( and others), but this is on a very fresh clean OS install here.

Try just the Prefetch and reg clean part. It has worked very well on an upgrade/overlay install also.

Ronald, thank you for your time in answering, but I don’t think so. I have a clean install as well and use Diskeeper, which is recommended by Microsoft. It’s very robust, and because of the size of some photoshop files, I’ve been away of these issue for quite some time.

I don’t think it’s my system, I think it’s CS. I have a designer friend who is having the same problem, and he’s on a different configuration/operating system.
