Hi…this is my first time posting in the Photoshop forum and I am a semi-novice user…please be tolerant of any ignorance 🙂

I have looked at the titles of all the posts and have not seen anything (without looking at each messages text) that might even be similar to what I have encountered.

I create an image, flatten and resize, save for web, then load the image to my hosting server (have a couple and tried it in both). The image doesn’t show on the html document. When I bring up the image URL in the browser, it says "The image “http://www.anyplace.com/anyimage.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors". When it first started, I was successful (a couple of times) in recreating the image, but now it doesn’t help to do that either.

I am using PS7…have been for quite a while and hadn’t had this problem until about 3 weeks ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application, but that hasn’t helped either.

If anyone has had this problem or knows how to correct it, please help.

Thanks so much,
Janet

Hi Janet,

Could you show us an example? Post a "faulty" JPG somewhare. This may be caused in PS, but also in the browser.

Hi Rob…

Thanks for your quick response.

I have created a test image (called testimage.jpg) and uploaded it to one of my servers..the URL is: <http://www.gpenterprises.com/testimage.jpg>.

I tried it in both my browsers (Netscape 7.0 and IE 6.0). In Netscape I get the same error message "The image “http://www.gpenterprises.com/testimage.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors"….and in IE I just get a broken image (red x).

Thanks for taking a look…

Janet,

I get a red x too… Hmmm.
Can you see what the size is? is it absurd? (one byte or one GB?) Does it look good in your "save for web"dialog box? Do you repeatedly use the same edits on them? like resize etc. If yes,try to make a JPEG without one of those edits, to isolate the problem.

EDIT: the image in your URL is 28 x 30 pixels and is -1 byte. (according to my browser.)

PS: I use IE6.

Janet, just a thought:

Are you shure your FTP’ing an image file, NOT just a shortcut to an image file?

What changed in your pc three weeks ago that it suddenly doesn’t work anymore?

(Firewall? Antivirus?)

Reset your Prefs to be sure.

Make a JPEG straight (not via Save for Web).

Make sure it’s not JPEG2000 (if you have that Plug-In)

Can’t think of anything more… I’m going to sleep now, more tomorrow. Rob

The file is there, it’s just corrupt.

"testimage.jpg" is only 3k
It’s almost assuredly a shortcut or thumnail, not a jpeg.

"testimage1.jpg" is 15k, and a viable image.

"gplogofr.jpg" in the same directory is also invalid image.

Janet,

Make sure you are uploading to the server in Binary Mode.

Do you have a space after the extension in the name name of the image? Make sure the last 3 leters in the image name are .jpg and that there is no space or other character.

I’m stumped…I don’t have thumbnails of any of my images, unless it makes them for me somehow…how would I know if it was a thumbnail?…I’ve been doing the same process for all my images for the three years I’ve been using photoshop and have never had this problem…ever. I did reset the preferences and it seemed to work work for a bit.

Right now, I’m just hosting the images for eBay ads. When I copy and paste the html text (created in frontpage until I can get my golive 6 reinstalled) into the description area of the ad, I have to manually enter the image URL. I was finding that if I enter it by typing it in the description which I have always done successfully), it wouldn’t show up in the preview. I found I had to enter the image URL into the browser (which the image shows up in), then copy the URL from the browser location field and paste it into the description where the image source goes, then it would show up in the preview. I have no idea why that worked and typing it in didn’t…it’s the same URL…nothing is different…no spaces before the .jpg…nothing.

That seemed to work for several ads…I posted them and looked at the end product with all the images showing…but on the last one I was entering last night, even the logo image that is showing on several other ads is not showing on the last one I created. It’s the same exact image URL (that I copy and paste from the browser location field as explained above).

In fact, I was seeing them come up in the preview page. Then, after entering another, the one I just saw was gone again. At the end of all that, I have no images showing at all…and now none of them are showing in any of my ads…even after they were there when I posted the ads.

I hope I explained this enough for you. I’m still quite a novice with the vocabulary and such. I’m just stumped at why what I was always doing is no longer working for me.

This is the URL for the simple little logo: <http://www.gpenterprises.com/gplogo.jpg> I just cleared the cache on both my browsers and entered it again…in both Netscape and IE and it looks fine from my end.

Please let me know what you see in your browsers.

I may have to cancel these ads with no images in them 🙁

Thanks for any help…

I think I’ve found what the problem is. It appears to be my host. Since I reset my preferences, I hadn’t tried uploading them to the other hosting account (like I had at first and was getting the same errors in both).

I just uploaded them to the other account (using the same ftp client and same settings) and the images seem to be showing ok now.

I figure, since the ftp client settings are the same for each of these host’s connection properties, it must be a problem with the host (a new one for me). On my way to contact them now.

Thank all of you for your input here….I appreciate ALL of you…very much!

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!!
Janet
