Everytime I start PS I get the message: "The monitor profile [profile name] appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software."

Adobe gives support for it here ( <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/31caa.htm> ) but dont really undestand it. The monitor is pretty expensive and new, with current drivers installed.

If I go into gamma will that ruin my monitor setup if I chosen the wrong one or just for adobe stuff? and which one do I select cause it says dont choose the same one, and there are like 20 others sitting there where it directs you.

Thanks.

It means what it says – the profile currently associated with your display is defective.

Start with the sRGB profile, and save the new profile to a different name (so you don’t hose the sRGB profile).

Also, contact the makers of your display and tell them that they apparently installed a bad profile.

I get that message with my new monitor as well. You’re not using a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 by any chance?

Could be a common Iiyama problem. I have an Iiyama ProLite H540S and PSCS gave an error message about the H540.ICM profile being corrupt.

I donÂ’t know if this is the correct solution but I loaded the H540.ICM profile into Adobe Gamma went through the calibration wizard without making any changes and saved the resulting profile as H540_PS.ICM. It was about twice the size of the original (not at my home PC now to check). Then replaced the original H540.ICM in the windows spool/color folder with the new one. Now PSCS and the monitor are happy.

Perhaps someone who knows more about colour management etc could comment on this method. I did email Iiyama UK support about it and got a reply saying ‘…yes that’s what we would recommend’ I was hoping for some explanation as to why the profile didn’t work with Photoshop.

You shouldn’t have selected a known bad profile as a starting point – but at least it worked for you.

If you have a bad profile, start with something ELSE, like sRGB. Just make sure you save the result to a different file name.
