I am using Photoshop 7. I have a gif image that contains text and am opening with Photoshop to create a smoother looking text. Someone suggested simply creating the text in Photoshop, but I am entering mathematical equations, thus there are alot of fractions, subscript and superscript that is entailed.

ANy suggestions for making the text look smoother?

Thanks,
rccm

I just tried that, and it still doesn’t look well. In fact, it looks worse. But thanks.

once it’s in manipulate any way you like. for clear printing. make sure the image ppi is around 300ppi (image> image size, resample unchecked). then play around with the anti-alias options and different fonts.

I have tried using PS and ImageReady, and neither one seems to be able to get the text smooth.

What frustrates me most is that I was able to do this last Friday with an image and now I don’t remember how I did it.

Thanks anyway,

The jagged text could be introduced in several ways…

Canvas/Image resolution – 300 dpi is typical, 72 dpi for web use is jagged. Text entry – on entry, Anti-aliased will smooth the jaggies Text Size – The ratio of text size to image dpi can be a problem. 72 pt type at 100 dpi = ugly
Text Font – Italized serifed fonts are jagged quicker than non-serif bold fonts.

If you are saving an image with a lot of colors, then the color table code may be giving up on giving the text enough colors to be smooth.

If you’re trying to do a transparent gif containing text, then it won’t be smooth – gif only has a mask, not true transparency.

Scott:

I am just using black and white. The program that I am creating it from only creates a gif, therefore, I am not trying to make it transparent.
