Is there any reason why Tga files h_a_v_e to be saved with "copy" in the name? That is actually very annoying, since I save most of my work ( textures for pc game characters)in tga format and use a save as action to permanently refresh my changes, to be viewed on the model.
Not a show stopper, but it forces me to have 2 tga versions of the same file every time. one during work and the final changed by hand to a none copy version.

Rather useless, since I save backups of each working files as psd or tiff copies with all layers.

Julian,

I have tested this and I can save it (back) to TGA fine, except in two cases: When I convert to 16 bit and then SAVE I get a dialog giving me formats to save to, EXCEPT tga.

When I create a layer and then save, I also get a dialog (tga available), but it states that it must be saved as * copy.tga.

Couldn’t you flatten before save?

Strange thing is, of course that TGA is an available format when you want to save.

No, I can’t flatten before save. I have a psd with tons of layers open and usually just click my save action to update the tga version.
another odd thing is that since a while ( happens in PS7 as well) I sometimes get the error that the file can’t be saved, cause it is in use or left open. only happens sometimes and yes in a way the file is in use since it is displayed on the model in the model viewer, but that wasn’t an issue before.

I believe the latter happens because of a slight conflict between PS and certain server software.

The former happens because someone at Adobe thinks they know your workflow better than you do, and have decided that you should be inserting " copy" into every PSD-derived flattened file you save, whether you agree with them or not.

well, isn’t the little nifty copy checkbox there for this purpose? I really can’t believe anyone at adobe is so stupid to force us to save every file with copy attached.the general brilliance of this software speaks against it 🙂

hm.. server software? what would that be for example. I really don’t think I got any server software on my comp. but then again.. what do I know 🙂
I did googled on this topic and actually there seem plenty of people having this issue and more or less along at least the last 2 versions of ps. I never had it, could always overwrite the regarding file on the fly, but all of a sudden it started to be a random problem. this was already with PS7 on my previous old windows xp install . I had hoped it would be gone on this fresh setup, but – bummer!
