Question fot the Photoshop gurus?

PROBLEM EXTRACTING PICTURE

I using PS7 and have problem when using path tool or even lasso tool to extract some image and place into another document. Precisely, when using pen tool and finish around some object or person, then going to MAKE SELECTION I have marching ants around selected. Then tried with EDIT > CUT or COPY but problem start here. Selected not cutting or copying but that marching ants disappearing or in best I have cut pixels with shape of selected one and not image at all.
Also have problem when start using pen tool. Every move to the next anchor point a have space behind filed with foreground color.
Please is anyone know to explain step-by-step what I have to do or what I doing wrong?

For the copy/cut, you need to paste (CTRL+V) just after to create a new layer without the outside.

Another solution is to use CTRL+J to "jump" the selection to a new layer, you don’t need to cut or copy with this!

For the pen tool, in the option bar, there are three smaller icons on the left side. you have to change to the small icon with a pen tool (the scond one); the first option creates a shape layer, you just want to create a path.
