In PhotoShop CS, I am creating a piece of paper with a paperclip attached to it. My problem is, after I add effects to my paper clip I cannot delete part of it without my effect also changing.
Steps to recreate:
1. New document
2. Create a new layer and use the rectangle tool to create a piece of paper. Add shadow effect. Use a 255,255,161 (looks like post it).
3. Create another layer, now use the the Custom Shape Tool and draw a grey paperclip. Add a Bevel and Emboss layer style and change the depth to 300%. Also change the Gloss Contour to ring and turn the Opacity to 50%…oh, and check the Anti-aliased checkbox.
4. Place the paper clip over the piece of paper you created and use the eraser tool to remove the part of the paper clip that would be going under the piece of paper.
Problem:
Notice that the effect on that paper clip layer changes with what I have removed…so now the bevel is reacting to this change. I want it to look like a sharp edge when it goes under the paper and not beveled. Any suggestions on how to do this. I wish there was a way to rasterize that layer. I can flatten all the layers, but I’d rather keep my other layers intact.
