When I open photoshop, get a new document, and try to use the text tool I get a message that my scratch disk is full

I only have one disk … why is this happening?

Thanks

Because your hard disk is full.

Well, my hard disk is not full .. .it is a 40gig and only 35% used.

So, that’s not the answer!

If Photoshop says the disk is full, then that means the OS told Photoshop that the disk is full.

Check the size of document you are creating, check the resolution, check the bit depth, etc.

Somehow you are filling up the hard disk.

(and 40 Gig is a TINY hard drive by today’s standards)

Or do a search for *.tmp files. I bet there is a large one there that’s associated with PS.

Delete it.

PS deletes the scratch file itself, except when PS is shut down other than normal (power outage/pc reset etc.).
