Opening files

When I click on "Open With" and then select photoshop it doesn’t open automatically as it used to. The only way I can now open files is with the photoshop browser and even then it tells me it is the wrong type of file and can’t open it sometimes-can anybody help?

What about File>Open? Does that exhibit the same problems?

It used to open files automatically before my pc crashed so I was wondering if I haven’t set it up properly?
