DDE error on exiting PS CS – what causes it?

I installed/registered/activated PS CS on my computer about a week ago. After running for a whole week without problems, tonight I started to get the following error every time I quit the program (regardless of whether I open or edit a file or not), whether I use File>Exit or click on the X at the upper right corner:

A grey window comes up, with title: DDE Server Window: Photoshop.exe – Application Error

The text in the window reads:

The instruction at "0x02d6935d" referenced by memory at "0x02ed0008". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

At this point, the only choice is to click on OK, which seems to terminate the program.

Does anyone know what causes this problem, and how to fix it?

I am running PS CS on a Windows 2000 clean install, with 768 MB RAM memory, Pentium III chip at 700 MHz. Two ATA hard drives; PS scratch file on its own partition on C: drive.

Regards,

Rafael

That’s usually a DLL conflict in Win2k. First have you restarted since you started getting the error? Second, have you added or updated any software (including windows updates, etc.) since you installed CS?

Dave,

I have added the following after installing PS CS: WinZip 8.0

Also, I tried to import a scan from my HP S20 scanner (for the first time since installing PS CS). The scanner was installed prior to installing PS CS, and it was working fine. PS CS was working fine (coexisting with the scanner) but then again, I had not tried to import a scan yet…

Rafael

try reinstalling CS to see if it fixes the conflict.

I am experiencing the same problem and reinstallation of Photoshop CS did not solve the problem. Any other ideas on correcting this problem.

could be related to a plugin or some other driver not exiting properly. kinda hard to tell from here. as i said above some dll got stepped on somewhere. it’ll likely take some sluething and reinstalling apps to clear it up.
