I am editing black and white bitmap artwork. Many of the scans have "dots" (uniform size and shape) throughout the image. Rather than dragging the eraser over every single dot, is it possible to specify the parameters and delete all objects meeting the criteria? For example, select a dot, then invoke a command to "delete all objects that look like this">

You can select a dot, and then use the SELECT>SIMILAR command, but that only works with items of a specific color (range).

It sounds like you’re wanting to use the image based on size, shape, color, etc… in Photoshop, no. That’s not possible.

The artwork is black and white and was scanned as bitmap, then converted to grayscale so I can edit (all the drawing is black the background is white). The "dots" look like pinheads and fill some of the drawing to give a texture appearance.

I tried selecting a dot with the magic wand, then did SELECT>SIMILAR, then DELETE, but it deleted any black object. So, from your message I understand there is no option but to do a dot-by-dot erase. Thank you.

The dots you describe may be an attempt by the software to simulate any color that is not black or white.
Try experimenting with you scanning/conversion process to produce a true black and white image. The dots should disappear.

Paul,

Have you tried the "Dost and Scratches " filter?

This and other techniques are described in Chapter 5, PhotoShop Restoration & Retouching by Katrin Eisman.
