Program error when printing

Photoshop CS – P4 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, printing to Epson 1270 user defined paper size 5×7. Have two files open, each less than 3mb in size.
When I click on Print, message comes up Program error – unable to print. Does not bring up printer pop-up.

Exited Photoshop and restarted – prints fine. this has happened a couple of times. Any ideas?

first thing i’d do is update the printer driver. make sure it’s signed for the correct os if you’re using xp or win2k.
