To start:
Since LenHewitt has decided to make my last post Read only lets change it a bit.

Anyways here it goes.

Will I be able to use PS CS 5 years from now? (Yes I will probably still use win2k and If I dont I will be able to INSTALL it on some sort of computer.Just Like Ps 7.)

Does any one know if Adobe will provide me a way of removing Activation once PS CS2 (or what ever the new version is called) comes out?

Does it not bother anyone that you may not be able to use PS CS in 2 -5 years (Not confirmed but it could happen.)?
I can use at this very instant PS 3-7 with no problems.

What will happen to people who already bought PS CS and need to reactivate 2-5 years from now?

The FAQs on activation have pointed out to you several times already. Read them.

ngash2,

I’ve not browsed the forum(s) enough to know where all you might’ve asked this question nor if one of them gave you the link to the FAQs on the activation (not in the forum, but rather provided on the Adobe website), so here it is: <http://www.adobe.com/activation/main.html>

In brief, if PS CS is superceded by a new version, if Photoshop itself is ever discontinued, or if Adobe goes out of business, then Adobe will set up the activation process to automatically approve any activation request for PS CS, or else they’ll provide a way to disable or remove activation. I don’t know if these answers on activation are provided anywhere in the way of formal documentation available to the user, but you could certainly print and save a copy of the FAQs. While web pages can be spoofed and thus shouldn’t be taken as a written agreement, it is certainly better than nothing. This may be covered in detail in the EULA…I’ve not read it all.

Nagash,

How many times do you have to start these threads? This has been answered so many times and you can find plenty of info that answers your questions on the Adobe website. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lock up this thread also.

How about a "Why isn’t my CTRL key working?" thread. There hasn’t been one of those for a few days.

It only becomes a thread if someone responds.

Hey, my control key doesn’t work!

Oops, the mouse doesn’t either.

Does "activation" mean that I have to turn on the power? …

Yes, this is all a re-hash of what’s in the Activation FAQ page:

Will I be able to use PS CS 5 years from now? (Yes I will probably still
use win2k and If I dont I will be able to INSTALL it on some sort of computer.Just Like Ps 7.)

Yes. From the Activation FAQ: In the event that a product is discontinued, Adobe will enable automatic approval of all activation requests for that product or provide a means to remove activation outright. Even after the older version of the product stops shipping, you can activate your copy of Photoshop CS. In the unlikely event of the company’s shutting down, we will enable automatic approval of all activation requests or provide other technical means allowing users to continue using our products.

Will Adobe provide me a way of removing Activation once PS CS2 (or what
ever the new version is called) comes out?

No, a means to remove Activation would only be provided if a product is discontinued or the company shuts down. We understand that people continue to use older versions long after a new version is out and are fully comitted to your right to continue to use that software.

Can I have that in writting?

See the Activation FAQ: http://www.adobe.com/activation/main.html

What will happen to people who already bought PS CS and need to reactivate
2-5 years from now?

Covered above. It will activate.

Will Adobe Even discuss these future plans with its customers?

I think the Activation FAQ does a pretty good job of covering the possibilities. If you feel there is something it doesn’t cover, bring it up here and I can see if I can get an answer.

Can we have some sort of guarantee (written) that I will be able to use PS
CS 5 years from now?

It’s in the license agreement. You buy Photoshop CS, you have it in writing. From the FAQ: "Adobe’s Product License Agreements typically grant the user of an Adobe product the right to use it in perpetuity. Adobe plans to honor these agreements."

I can use ps 3 right now. Will I be able to do the same with PS CS?

Most definitely.

So, there’s a back-door. That gives the kiddies a new target to shoot at.

…allowing users to continue using our products.

So it’ll be expanding to other products.

Now to wait and see when a patch for the current PS CS bugs comes out.

So, there’s a back-door. That gives the kiddies a new target to shoot at.

Doesn’t mean that at all. There are any number of ways activation can be removed, including making a patcher available, etc.

I would assume it wouldn’t disturb the Ctrl key. <g>
