Hi Everyone,

We just installed Windows XP Professional version on our computer and now my gif’s and jpg’s all open in something called "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer" instead of PhotoShop. I am the one who is still using the archaic 4.0 LE version of PhotoShop. Could someone please tell me how to get all my gifs and jpgs to open up in PhotoShop again? Thanks so much and happy holidays!

Shift+Right Click on the file and choose OPEN WITH and then select OTHER PROGRAM and then browse to Photoshop. Check the box that says Always Use this Program to Open These Files.

Lisa,

Open Windows Explorer. Right-Click on any JPG. Select "Open With" and browse through to Adobe Photoshop. Check the "Always open files of this type" checkbox and click "OK".

Repeat for GIFs

Open Windows Explorer. Right-Click on any JPG. Select "Open With"

Len, that should read SHIFT right click

…should read SHIFT right click

That’s what I wrote in my post prior to Len’s, but after I wrote it I realized that in Windows 2000 you get the Open and Open With option without using the shift key; which may be true in XP also. The Shift option is a Win98 thing, yes?

no in xp. no shift needed.

lisa, you may come to like the win pic & fax viewer. it’s quick and great for previews. from within P&F viewer, you can right clik and select "Open with" and jump right into PS (with the image) if you want to edit it.
