Thanks!

I’ve downloaded the AI tryout version today in order to work on the file, but its telling me that the trial period has expired. It’s getting frustrating.

Adobe couldn’t help me with fixing the tryout.

So, I’m stuck.

You could always pay for the software you are using. {shrug}

Odd comment. What could possibly be wrong with using the Adobe supplied tryout prior to making a purchase?

Aren’t tryout versions "Not for commercial use", maybe I’m wrong. That was probably a little harsh, I’m sorry.

Matthew,

No one said it was for Commercial use.

Matthew,

And you dress funny.

Besides, Illustrator and Photoshop are not the same. One can generally read a file that was written by the other, but since the tools, metaphors, and file formats are so different, they are not equivalent (though Illustrator can export layered PSDs).

I said I was sorry. I will now violently flog myself as penance for my seemingly casual remark. Perhaps I should send you a half a pinky finger?

and PS can export paths to Illustrator. But when you open an .ai it rasterises it, so that’s no good in this case.

(I am beating myself about the head as I type this)

I do intend to purchase AI, but I would like to be comfortable with it before I do. I assume that the reason they offer a tryout version is to allow a potential customer the opportunity to get to know the software before purchasing.

I have been using Photoshop for over 5 years and am completely comfortable with it. I just upgraded to CS from 5.0. Quite a few upgrades from my lil’ 5.0 version. I’m looking forward to exploring all of the extra features. Never really had to call Adobe support before.

However, since I’ve NEVER used AI before, I’m sure that I’ll need help from time to time. With the little support that I’m getting from Adobe regarding the tryout, I’m a little concerned that if I were to purchase the sw (AI), and I was stuck on something, how reliable are they to help me? They can’t even get the tryout version to work.

Oh well….

glenna, sorry to say that once the trial expires (messing w/a system clock an cause it to expire prematurly) the only way to get it working again is to format the drive.

Pose this question in the Illustrator <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ee6b328> forum. In my experience, there were some low spots in Illustrator’s history, but with CS, it’s a fine, solid product, with lots of tools and techniques you couldn’t even attempt in a program like Photoshop. Best yet, they’re all vector objects, so you can tweak ’em at any time–like a thousand layers–but manageable, and you get real layers, too.

There’s still the problem of why the demo version stopped early. Perhaps you can wait for the Illustrator CS demo, which should give you another 30 days.

Thanks guys!

Apparently customer service at Adobe said that they would get a message to a technical person. This was at about 8:30am.

Still haven’t heard back.

I’ll just be patient and hope that I hear from them soon.

Take care!

Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m off…. the clock will soon hit 5pm.

Maybe I’ll get a call tomorrow? or the next day, or the next….

I’m a very patient person….

On second thought, I’ll call them again tomorrow.

I would think that all they would have to do is change the registration number or something. Maybe they could send me a disk?

A person could wish, can’t they.

Anyway, thanks for all your input…..

I’ll check back tomorrow.

They’re going to tell you you need to reformat if you want to get the trial running again. That’s the only way.

good luck, dave
