I know that in CS I can have text wrap along a path, but is there a way in Photoshop to make paragrahs of text wrap around an object?

In other words, let’s say I have a photo of a person, and I want several paragraphs to not cover the person, but to go up to the silohouette of the person and then move to the next line. Does this make sense? Is there a way to do this in Photoshop besides formatting each line of text manually?

make a path around the object(s) and let the text follow the path.

I think you may be misunderstanding.

That’s what I want to be able to do. Is this possible in Photoshop?

Ah. Yes… there’s something like text inside a shape…. can’t exactly think of it now wait… wait…. lemmie fire up the app! 🙂

yes. Just use any of the pen tools to create a custom shape (in that image, trace down the girl’s side then drag to the edges.) close the path. Once you have it layed out, click the text tool then click the path/shape. The text should conform to the custom shape you just created.

Or, if you don’t want to do the whole thing point by point, use the path tools in path mode to draw the initial rectangle, then put the path tool into subtract mode (the second icon in the right set of four icons – union, subtract, intersect, exclusive or) and take out some chunks. Then click with the type tool over the remaining rectangle part and fire away.

Optionally, keep the shape tools in shape mode and you can see the results of the subtraction right away, which can be easier to deal with. You can delete the shape layer after using the type tool to create the type layer.
