So I’m making something, and then poof, computer restarts. No warnings, nothing. It’s been doing this for the past few days, It only stays up for about 3 minutes…but I have to be doing something for it to shut off, I cant just leave it alone.

Fix It says I dont have any viruses, my computer is clean of all bad stuff. I dont know how to fix it or what to do, can I get some help over here?

I saw the FAQ and I read about this…Can anyone tell me why it is just happening now when I’ve had it for a good 6+ months now?

Just by chance, have you changed any device drivers lately? Particularly video card drivers?

Or is it possible you installed any other programs lately that may have installed conflicting .dll files or other system files? Did you do a windows update lately?

I’m not trying to divert from PS possibly being the problem, but many, many times crashes like that are caused by device driver problems, or system file incompatibilities with some programs?

It doesn’t seem likely that all of a sudden, after six months it would just cause a problem without something else on you system changing first.

Paul,

why it is just happening now when I’ve had it for a good 6+ months now?<<

Photoshop taxes parts of the system that other software never goes near! If there is a hardware problem on your machine, then Photoshop will find it….

As to why it is happening suddenly now, chances are either a RAM chip has gone bad, the CPU is on its way out, an HDD cable has become slightly unseated or a motherboard component has given up the ghost.

Assuming you have more than one RAM chip, I would start by removing one DIMM at a time and seeing if that helps.

also check fans, as something might be overheating, and the power supply is always a possible failure point.

What are your hardware specs (make of motherboard?). I’ve had all sorts of problems with a brand new machine which seem to be down to my Asus board.

I had the same problem with random and sudden restarts. Turns out I had a bad stick of RAM — and it was the last sector on the last stick, so it was pretty much only being accessed when I used Photoshop. Try testing your RAM with the utility at memtest86.com <http://www.memtest86.com> and see what you come up with. I was able to RMA mine to Corsair (what a relief!).

Linds.

I use to fix this with another paging-file arrangement;go to Computer Management and change the size of the virtual memory paging file.
Also Photoshop’s primary scratch file and Windows primary paging file should not be on the same volume. (You didn’t get that message, didn’t you?)Preferably they should be on different physical drives.
Hope this is relevant.
