"Patrick Gault" …
I recently loaded W2K in replacement of Win 98. I got some error messages when starting PS 5.5 so I re-installed it. Now I seem to have lost all of my "custom" actions. Are they gone forever?
Thanks!
Hello Patrick:
re: Are they gone forever?
Maybe, maybe not.
When you close Photoshop it stores the contents of the Actions Palette in a file called
Actions Palette.psp
The version of this file created under Win 98 might still be around. If so you’ll need to find it. (Note: On my W2K machine, Actions Palette.psp was "hidden," so I had to change an option so W2K would display (and then find) *.psp files.) You can find the details of how to "unhide" files in W2K Help.
Then use the W2K Start > Search > Find Files and Folders facility to search on file name Actions Palette.psp.
What you’re hoping for: W2K finds two copies of this file: The new one created when you reinstalled PS 5.5 under W2K (file size real small; PS default actions in it) and the one created under Win 98 (file size larger, because it has custom actions in it).
If W2k only finds one, that’s not good.
If there are two, you’re in business. Drag and drop the one with the larger file size into the folder with the smaller one, replacing the newest file (with no actions in it). When PS comes up, the actions palette will be populated by the Actions Palette.psp created by Win 98.
Good luck. Hope you find two!
