I have Photoshop 7.0 on XP.

Whenever I try to fill in a small area with a color, the whole document gets filled with color. For example, if I were to draw the outline of a circle with the Brush tool and then tried to fill it with red, everything becomes filled with red. The only way I can get it to only fill the area I want is if I select it with a wand, which is a little too time-consuming for me.

Sounds like "Tolerance" is set too high. Make that 20 or so… Thats on the options bar when the bucket is selected.

I’ve tried that but it doesn’t help.

Mmmmm… I see.
Can you post an example of that? Not the "whole document that gets filled", but before you would apply the bucket?
I could have a go at it then.

I try to fill the eyes in with the green and the whole image ends up green.

Check "contiguous" in the options bar?

Make sure you’re on the right layer.
