Window location of inputs?

A slightly annoying problem.

Any input (from file or scanner) is placed in a new window in the upper left corner of the PS main program window.(7.01, soon to be CS but I suspect in most versions).

Is there some setting or way that I can force the program to open the new image window in the center (for instance) of the main program window? I sure would like to put menus on the left side.

BTW, after 6 phone calls and FAXs (finally someone in support said "I’ll take care of it"), Adobe finally agreed that I did provide POP and the CS upgrade is on its way! Sure hope that it is worth it. And my hat is off to "Nicholl" in support who said, "you shouldn’t have to go through all this". And to Jason R. in Customer Care who carefully stood by as I send new FAXs and reported back to me about the problems as he saw them (the original copy was very poor).

Interesting. PS CS arrived, has been installed, activated and registered. (With absolutely no problems).

With the new CS version, the image in putted window is exactly where I want it, to the right of the docked tool bar. In my old 7.01 version, it still comes in at the fully upper left corner, behind the docked tool bar.

Am I missing a setting that I can control?

BTW I read the License very carefully today. Does everyone know that you are not to use the older versions after upgrading? (Other than in transit to the new version?).

Who’s to say how long it will take to make that transition?

My feelings, exactly. I figure the rest of my life. However, it is interesting that by upgrading, a user forfeits the right to use the original license that was granted him for the previous product. Hence, when we advise users here to leave an earlier version on their machine, we are telling them to violate their license terms!

Would be a very interesting court case. Since the user’s agreement is a contract, one could say that Adobe is in default as they are prohibiting the original benefits granted the user. There is no mention in the current user’s agreements (now watch that change very quickly, however, they can’t back date it and remove our current rights) that future upgrades will void the existing license of a product.

Interesting fact. My PS CS CD came with an announcement that the "user" had to accept activation. This was on a label pasted to the back of the CD. Appears to be a second thought thing, the label was placed over the tape that seals the CD. I had to destroy the "notice" label to open the CD jewel case.

Fun and games with the legal beagles. It is like that portion of the agreement that says "if you don’t accept these terms, you can not install the product. Return it for a refund". Ya, sure. Every retail software purchase that I have ever made came with a "there is no way we are going to refund your money if the package has been opened" cause. Can I send the purchase back to Adobe for a refund, I think not!

Dave,

Does that hold for purchases from "authorized" retailers too? Adobe will directly accept returns and refund product sales made by them? I know about the 30 day refund policy at the on-line Adobe store but didn’t know that it covered 3rd party sales too. Great.

Still wish someone would tell me how to move that window in the 7.01 version. Maybe it is impossible, no one has said. Or better yet, perhaps I am too stupid to figure it out.

I don’t think so.

Jerry:

Are you still interested in the fix to your original question for PS 7? I think it is the old bug whereby the toolbar needed to be positioned just a tiny bit in from the edge. Otherwise, it was "invisible" when other windows were supposed to be tiled.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Colin!

Moving the tool bar a smidgin did the trick. Now I can continue on my 50 year conversion to the PS CS while using PS 7.01 once in awhile.

You’re welcome. Silly bug, but easy workaround. The stuff of great software. 🙂
