Suddenly when attempting to import an image into Photoshop 6 from my CanoScan 600 I got a message saying that the scanner cannot be found.

The scanner is still identified under Import, and will scan using Canon’s own software.

This has happened before and, because it didn’t seem possible to force Photoshop to re-recognize the scanner, I probably reinstalled Photoshop.

I have looked for but not found a settings file that can be deleted so that I can again select the scanner without reinstalling the program.

Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem with PS 7.0. I have a Minolta Dimage Multi scanner, working on XP. I can use the scanner in PS Elements, and every other function .EXCEPT PS 7.0. It is listed under Import, but when you click on … nothing happens, PERIOD! I spent 2 hours on phone with tech support today. NO ANSWERS. NO HELP. Anyone have any ideas?

Does your suggestion to reinstall the scanner apply to both Van and me?

This is happening on an old backup machine and I will have to put on my thinking cap to reinstall this SCSSI scanner! I certainly hope that my USB scanner on my main machine holds in Photoshop 7.

What is annoying is that the scanner is obviously being recognized by Windows and works with Canon’s own software but there is no way to persuade Photoshop to look for it and reselect it.

Now where is that thinking cap . . .

The problem was fixed by forcing Device Manager to rerecognise the scanner. Although it was working with Canon’s own software, I discovered that the scanner was being listed under ‘Other’ devices and was carrying a yellow question mark, yet was described as working properly. When I deleted the device and reinstalled it, it was listed as an ‘Imaging device’ and Photoshop 6 was again happy.

Since the device was working previously with Photoshop, something must have happened within Windows to cause the scanner to be incorrectly listed by Device Manager, at least as far as Photoshop was concerned.
