I am using photoshop 6.0 and a Canon i950 printer. I can’t seem to get ‘clean’ colors when I’m printing. For example, when I try to print 100% Magenta, 0% Cyan, 0% Yellow, 0% Black, I get some Cyan shading. When I try to print Cyan, I get some Magenta as well. I spoke with Canon technical support, they said I should be using the Adobe RBG 1998 profile (didn’t solve the problem) I have also tried a variety of other RBG and CMYK profiles as well.

I need to be able to print using only one ink color at a time. HELP!

Thanks. Ken

I don’t have a i950 but most printers have some sort of self test that prints a swatch of each ink. You could check that way to rule out a hardware problem. A good resource is:

The problem is the profile. If you are using the BJ2000 profile that ships with the printer, you will not get pure magenta. The only way to get it currently is to set the color CYK to minimum and M to max, in the printer color dialog.

To get a better magenta from the printer under real world conditions get a custom profile.

This is based on the print dialog box being set as
Source: Your color space,(Adobe 98 preferred)
Print: BJ2000

BTW, Canon shows this profile under BJ. Don’t look for Canon.
