Horrible Printer Color

My printer died and a quick replacement for just "general" use had to perform emergency photo work. The color is so ugly. It’s an HP 5150 and the 1st prints were w-a-y too red and blue. It has a feature where saturation, brightness and colortone can be modified and a preview which helps a little. After playing with that for a while, I could bring hues and intensities a bit more down to earth, but the blue just screams an exceedingly bright cyan. It is printing in AdobeRGB space.

Monitor and Photoshop coordination are fine. How do I get this printer to behave and be a better emergency helper until I get a photo printer?

Marie,

Change the file to sRGB – The HP should be a lot happier then

Hi Len! Did that–choices were AbobeRGB or SRGB/SYCC, so I moved it to the latter. Also moved the slides around again (ugh! there’s no gradations, I either get too much or too little) and the cyan is down.

Hey, for $50 I couldn’t say no and we needed a printer fast. Never thought I’d use it for photos, but had to after all. It’ll do for an emergency.

Thanks much, and have a great TGIF day……….

Marie,

Change your Photoshop colour space to sRGB, convert the file to sRGB on opening, THEN print it
