Is my Asus A7V133 mainboard with the Via KT133 chipset too old to run Photoshop CS? It has a 2.0 GHz cpu, 266 MHz FSB and 1GB of PC133 SDRAM. I’ve been told by a local retailer that the PC133 SDRAM will cause problems running PS CS. They said that I needed a newer mb running DDR PC 2700 or 3200.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I thought the 3200 was 400mhz… I could be wrong though.

DDR is facter than SDram, and using SD is crippling down your Athlon. as to say that PSCS wouldn’t run, I wouldn’t say that.

Usually, the Atlon are working better with synchronized ram (just buy the cheapers of the two (2700 or 3200) then make it work at a slower speed but with faster timings (cas at 2 for instance)
You can get very good mobos with nforce 2 chipsets for your athlon… Do NOT expect double speed because the ram runs twice as fast…

I use the A7Pro by Asus, running an 850MHz Athlon, 1G ram, and, while slow, I don’t have any problems.

So far as nForce chipsets, be aware that some people are having problems with the Asus/nVidia chipset. The problem is apparently traceable to conflicts with the vidio card. If you use the nVidia chip, you are best off with the nVidia video card, or so my sources inform me.

They are not unassailable sources, however! 😉

Jeff,

I’m inclined to think your retailer is just trying to move some product out the door and they don’t really know what they’re talking about. But, maybe they’ve heard something I haven’t. However, what I can tell you is that I’m running Photoshop CS on an old SuperMicro P6DGU motherboard with Dual 550MHz P3s and 1.5GB of PC100 ECC registered SDRAM. PS CS runs just fine albeit not with the speed and performance of a more current hardware configuration.

Regards,

Daryl
