In the old days, we twisted our lens board, or angled the film or print holder to "straighten" an image… havn’t found this in PS, know it’s there, have not had a lot of time to study tho…

Starting with PS7:
Select the crop tool.
Drag a rectangle with the crop tool around the building you want to staighten. Click on the perspective button in the option bar.
Adjust the handles around the distorded building
Click apply. voila!

Gosh Pierre, I’d never noticed that little check-box before!

I use Edit/Transform/Perspective – this has the same effect, but it is limited to the area you select and the current layer [which may or may not be useful]. I think the crop tool method is better, after playing a bit. Thanks!

Since PS always has at least 3 ways to do something, I look forward to seeing the next posting here …

I prefer distort over perspective.

A few additions:

To level the horizon (helpful step sometimes) use the Measure tool to draw a line indicating what should be horizontal. Then go to Image>Rotate Canvas>Arbitrary and OK it.

And, before using distort or perspective, I drag out numerous guides for all sides I need to align, both for their existing positions and their approximate target positions. This helps me to get things in positon more accurately.

It was so much simpler with my Nikon and my 35 mm PC [Perspective Control] Nikkor lens. I just straightened the building in the view screen, being sure to use a screen with grid lines, and clicked. Voila.

You folks are the greatest — knew it was there all the time, hey, I’m 64, run 3 businesses, still do a lot of the "down-and-dirty" stuff myself, and when I have time to pore over the manuals, I’m too darned tired to remember half (or more) of it….

Thanks!!!!

Me again — it works, but often I get the message …"The center point is not correctly placed, or the corners are not properly selected." I keep pushing corners around a little and it works, but really don’t know what I’m doing to fix it. Any ideas? Thanks again. . .
