Hi, total noob here, am running demo of PShop CS to try my hand at various works. Am currently trying to do up a poster of sorts.

I am wondering if there is some site that displays all the fonts that are installed in a basic setup of photoshop so that I can quickly narrow down the fonts I would like to try out.

Any help gratefully appreciated

Photoshop uses your system fonts, so whatever fonts you have on your system should be available to Photoshop. However, there is another font folder that is exclusive to Photoshop.

From Photoshop Help:
In addition to the fonts installed on your system, Photoshop uses font files in these local folders:

Windows
Program Files/Common Files/ Adobe/Fonts

Mac OS 9.x
System Folder/Application Support/ Adobe/Fonts

Mac OS X
Library/Application Support/ Adobe/Fonts

If you want to view fonts as they appear in a PS image try the following tip:

To quickly change typefaces and see the change while you make it. First, highlight the type you want to change, and then press PC: Control-H (Command-H) to hide the highlighting (the type is still highlighted; the highlight is just hidden from view). Then, in the Options Bar, click once in the font field, then use the Up/Down Arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through your installed typefaces.
