And what have you heard, Mike? And from what source?
No Adobe representative has ever jumped into one of these threads and explained to those of us who post about these "(OEM) Photoshop for US$49.95" websites or SpamMails whichΒif anyΒ of these offers are genuine and legal, and how to make the determination.
I, for one, would like to know. If I knew that some were legal, offering registerable versions of Photoshop for so cheap, I’d be happy to recommend them to people. Shoot, I’d even buy copies for friends as birthday or Xmas presents.
So…do tell, Mr Engles. What have you heard? And from what source?
mike, your thread link was mangled. not registerable, no support. ps isn’t shipped as a oem version with any product (since maybe ver. 4). And even if it were, splitting up an oem version and selling it seperately (without the hardware) is also illegal. the link posted in that thread has been reported to
one guy even said in the thread, "wow sounds too good to be true". the fact that no one even called him on that and said "yea, maybe it is", doesn’t leave me with a good feeling about that board.
so not only does the unsuspecting guy who took the advice and bought it and installed over his friend’s pirated version think he’s legal, but he’s given his credit card # (master card/visa only please!) to a bunch of pirates. I wonder when he’ll get hit for 5000 bux worth of new systems.
I woulda logged on and warned him, but i didn’t want to register with a sleezy operation that would let that kind of blatant piracy link remain up.
"Yes,..you heard me right. Photoshop 7 full version for 50 bucks!! I called Adobe before buying Illustrator and asked them if this company was for real and although they did not jump up and down with joy,..they said it was legitimate and that they would also honor future upgrades at upgrade prices."
Hmm…I sure would like to knowΒabsolutelyΒwhat might be legal and what’s not. The author of the quote above could be an agent for the website (BuyUSA.com) he links to, or he could be totally full of crap about his claim about the call to Adobe.

I just heard about this not so friendly bashing of my name and Pixelparity. So I thought I’d come over here and see what it was all about………………
Mind you I’m no EXPERT on software and I’m a poor person, rich in soul though!! and a "good deal" came my way and a chance to use the "best in the business" so I went for it and now your disgracing my name and you don’t even know me?? Don’t know why Mark allows you people to post such negative stuff about people or a place you haven’t even bothered to look into a little bit more. Pixelparity.org is very nice set of forums and I love moderating my two little forums there. We have a small intimate group of people (and slowly growing) that share good information and sometimes bad information, as you seem to believe, get’s through (and I’m not saying your wrong but you have no right to be so judgmental until you are 100% certain) and I just happened to be the one that got all hot and excited about it! What can I say. I paid for the software online, it arrived promptly in 2 weeks, I installed it and it allowed me to download and install the newest update for it, so if it IS illegitimate that key code sure seems to be very well researched and works just fine. π
A little friendly advice boys and girls….. next time you decide to verbally bash an organization like PP or a person you don’t even know, make sure you know EXACTLY what your talking about before, did anyone ever explain what being a "bully" is. It’s a child that picks on others for no reason, only to serve his or her own sick and twisted ego and most of the time they take that attitude into their adult lives disrupting lives and hurting people they love and others they don’t even know. If you are known for this, please go seek help. I didn’t know that I was committing a crime, so get over it!! You also might want to take the time to go a read over the persons site, you just may learn something about the person and in retrospect might just chalk this up as a situation I was not as educated about as I should have been. End of story.
Oh and by the way, I don’t think these pirates would want my life or my credit history. I hardly think they will be charging up $5000.00 on my card!! Since I almost died over 10 years ago I filed for bankruptcy so I wouldn’t leave any debt to anyone in my family (yes, I’m THAT considerate!) but since I’m now on good med’s to keep me alive I do have ONE credit card and it’s a value is WAY under $250.00, it’s the emergency card when I am in trouble or really want to treat myself. See what I get for treating myself, possibly illegitimate software and a bunch of people that don’t know me from Adam cutting me down and making mindless accusations, talking out of your you-know-what’s is what I call it!!
I’m finished here.
Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. Live long and prosper and all that good wonderful and kind hearted stuff.
so if it IS illegitimate that key code sure seems to be very well researched and works just fine.
I bought it and it got here and it installed and it updated, that’s all I care about. End of story.
So rich, have you removed the pirate software now that you know it’s pirated? Oh that’s right, you don’t care – end of story right? Sounds like a nice bunch of pirates you have there. Some of us pay for our legal software and take offense at pirates who force adobe to keep the prices up and add annoying things like activation.
1) There is not proof YET about whether the software that I bought and paid for is pirated. So that would be your’s a few others opinions here.
2) I don’t know you and you talk out of your @ss about calling me a pirate. You sound like an angry young man that needs to go take a walk and relax a little more!! π
Oooh! You used the A word. (EDIT: Nice edit on the A word! <g>) I guess pirates don’t have the gud a vo-cap-you-lary. I just used the P word. P is for pirate. It’s the word of the day. Pay for your software and don’t promote piracy to others on your board and you won’t be labled a pirate.
No one was bashing you personally, but if it’s wrong, and now you know it’s wrong, how can you come in here (to Adobe itself) and admit that you’re ok with it being pirated sw?!! Makes no sense man. Like walking in to the Sears tool department and saying to the salesman, "Yea, I stole that set of Craftsman sockets out of a Sears in New Mexico last week." So now adobe knows your real (I guess) name and as a moderator at that site, they probably have a way to contact you. Do you hear the BSA helicopters yet? Better delete everything you have that isn’t paid for now!
You could have come in here like "Wow. That sucks, what do I have to do to get legal?" But you chose to go on the attack. Is that our fault? What kind of reaction did you expect on an Adobe sponsored board?
One serious piece of advice – good luck with not having your info sold. If I were you I’d cancel the card and have it reissued. Just because you don’t have much doesn’t mean your info isn’t worth something. More credit cards can now be issued in your name with the info from the first. Driver’s licenses and other documents can follow and can be issued and used for who know what. Your personal info is the most important asset you own and you’ve given it to a bunch of pirates. THINK man!
Do the right thing. Return the sw and get a legal copy. If you take a night course you could get an Edu discount on a full brand new version of PS CS. Or you could probably get v6 or 7 at a good price on ebay from someone willing to give you an official adobe transfer of license. Then you’d be eligible for the upgrade price. If it’s that important to YOU then PAY for it. But don’t come in here and try to justify piracy.
I think it’s a sign of a good, healthy imagination, to be able to ignore facts and believe impossible things. In the spirit of this holiday season, I commend Richard McCormick for helping us regain our innocent, childlike belief in fantasy, hopes, and imagination.
I think, though, that spirit would be better spent listening for sleigh bells.
There it’s done. I unloaded the software and tuned in a Anti-Piracy report form now if I could recover my lost money the world be right again. Unfortunetly there is not a whole lot I could give them in the way of information. There was NO return address and NO invoice, only the emailed one I got. I did find another phone number attatched to the line in the credit card invoice, so I included that along with the one on their site. I then used the comments box to fill them in on what happened to me and I mentioned the "fine people" on this forum (heh!) as helping me to find my way back into the light and "do the right thing". In any case it’s done. The links to the site in question, and it is still in question, have been removed by me at Pixelparity.org and Mark removed them from TalkGrapics.
One correction on the comments made about me. I was never a pirate, I was the victim. But you folks will think what you will and that’s fine with me. Sticks and stones………………. π

π Think of it as tough love. <G>

That’s excellent!

Good man Rich. I take it all back. Sorry you lost the 50 bux. I still suggest you cancel that card, tell the company you fell for a sw scam and get a new one reissued. It may even be possible to dispute the charge depending on the CC company. You may also want to send a letter to one or more of the credit agencies alerting them to be on the lookout for fraudulant charges or new cards opened in your name. You have rights and ways to protect yourself. experion, trw (I forget the name of the 3rd) all have lots of info on what you can do to protect yourself.
good luck, happy holidays. i know it sux but you did the right thing. sorry for coming down so hard on you.
Contact your credit card company and let them know that you did not recieve what you paid for. They might do a callback on the company, and get your money back. Mention that what they are doing is illegal and that you reported the "crime" to adobe — that might help your case.
No hard feelings, I heal quickly, got to in my case!! π
Hmmm, Don’s got a pretty good idea there, not a bad idea at all. OK, I think I’ll just do that, although I wonder if they will be working tomorrow?? π
Well, I went ahead and did it. I cancelled out the offending card and they are issuing a new one to me and I filled a frod report against the company and they will know within about 10 days if they are able to restore my money’s to me. She did tell me that is WAS an authorized payment and I agreed but stated that this was pirated software and that was not OK with me. So she wrote it up and submitted it. So fingers crossed and toes too. Thanks for everything guys! π
Yea, that would be nice but after talking it out with my room mate tonight after he got home from work I feel much better about it all and if I get the $$ back, great, if I don’t, what’s done is done and I’m glad I did the right thing! π
And Richard. Way to go. Glad to see you hung in here, listened to and followed the advice given and didn’t just go off on everyone (could have been an easy thing to do). Like mr milbut said, it was the right thing to do.
