I have an opportunity to buy photoshop 6 from my community college bookstore.
They claim they did not return it in time to exchange for photoshop 7. They said the original price was $299 but they will knock of $100 to bring it to $199

Is this a good deal?
If I purchase, can I upgrade to 7 through Adobe if I choose to do so? Will the training programs that I see advertised for 7 be ok to use with version 6?

I would not purchase it, two versions old now and upgrade to CS (version 8) goes for around $180. Also there is no educational version upgrade, you have to purchase a regular upgrade. Look at
http://www.academicsuperstore.com/index.html pricing. They have the whole CS suite for $380 and $279 for PhotoShop CS only.

I agree with Glen. I bought PS 7 academic version for $299 last year. Having had v6 and now v7, I would recommend that you spend the extra money and get at least v7, if not CS. It will be well worth your money.

It is getting harder for me to resist upgrading to CS, because there are some new features that would be useful for me… but I’ve told myself to wait for the next version…. must…. hold… out…
