I stumbled across this message board whilst looking for some P resources. I’d have to say 90% or MORE of these threads have peopl flaming and talking shit! Is everyone that bored, or disgruntled a life that instead of ignoring a post they don’t like they actually pu forth the effort to insult a person. Do they like trying to creat controversy? Maybe they’re trying to be like that squeeky wheel on on of those reality shows?

It’s kinda sad really, I’m now browsing through threads not looking fo information, but looking for what rediculous things someone will sa next 🙂

Bye for now

If you read the newsgroup for a while, you will discover that there are some people (Hecate and edjh come to mind) whose posts are highly informative.

OK, well, here’s some information:

1. This isn’t a "message board" it’s a newsgroup and an alt one at that. alt stands for alternative and in this case it means an alternative to the moderated, always polite, never offensive and very, very boring "company" and "mainstream" groups. Consequently, you will get all sorts of comments.

2. A newsgroup is NOT help forum. It is a group centred round a particular topic of interest to the people that go there. As a newsgroup, it is an arena for discussion, nothing more, nothing less. Any help that is given is done because people want to, not because it is the raison d’etre of the newsgroup.

3. if you want a help forum you’re better off going to one of the mainstream newsgroups or company message boards/forums. If however, you want to discuss the subject matter, or anything else for that matter, or to join in a lively community with all that entails, then by all means join in here. Just don’t expect a message board or anything other than as wide a range of people as you would encounter in real life, talking about anything that comes to mind and only most of which is about Photoshop.

It’s kinda sad really, I’m now browsing through threads not looking for information, but looking for what rediculous things someone will say next 🙂

Actually, what’s really sad is that people aren’t told what a newsgroup is, what it does, and what the alt prefix means.

Hope that helps.

Whats a newsgroup??

This IS a message board to me!

Seriously though, why cry about this board being fed into "your" group And why is everyone so excited that they use a newsgroup? Do you thin it’s like a little private niche where only the smart people are abl to gain access since the average retard can’t do it? The privat clubhouse and only you can get in!

The internet becoming more user friendly was a beautiful thing, or di you enjoy hanging out on IRC with 100 guys and one chick, a battle pi at that. I was ecstatic when Yahoo chat came out, I met quite a fe blondes that only knew how to put their ankles behind their ears.. forget trying to have them connect to an IRC server, and whether or no their ISP had reverse DNS!

I ran a multi-node BBS over a decade ago with a screaming 19.2 satellite feed bringing in Usenet and all that horrible shareware an cheesy porn of the old days. A handful of 6 disc changers for even mor cheesy porn and shareware. Legend of the Red Dragon was fun up unti you finally got to screw Violet.

Does being old school make you special? Noooo, I guess to some peopl it does though. So in that case, I’m as OG as they come! I was usin the web before there was a web! Gopher through a university and shel internet was SO MUCH fun. I miss it so much!

So you should thank all those "noobs" that you like to trash. If i werent for stupid people the internet wouldnt be as easy to use as i is now. So quit hiding in those l33t newsgroups, come on out and joi us! Don’t you already spend enough time in the basement? :

It only takes a clue. Now if you just had one.

If you think that impresses anyone, think again.

The very expert and professional regulars on the alt.graphics.photoshop newsgroup are grumpy about casual amateur questions from the new web forum forum4designers.com which has hijacked the group. It really would be more appropriate for most beginners to stick to a beginner’s board. Photoshop is a very sophisticated program and you would be amazed at the high level of expertise that is displayed here in response to serious professional questions. You won’t see those topics on the forum, only on the original newsgroup or probably archived on google groups. That doesn’t excuse the rudeness but at least explains it, I hope. I try to be real careful and respectful when asking questions to maintain the high standards.

For all this experience you say you have, not being able to recognise the difference between a web site, a message board and a newsgroup suggests that meaning has passed you by. And the relevance is that this is a group for the general discussion of Photoshop, not a message board for anyone to dump their latest crap on.
