The easy way is to not try and save directly to the CD. Save to a folder on your hard drive and when through with the session, back your data up on the CD. Windows treats CDs as Read Only. Another problem is that CDRWs are not as stable as write once CDs and I wouldn’t trust them for data storage at all. Write once CDs only cost 25 cents each so there’s no reason to risk loosing your data.

I second Larry’s advice. Save to HD first, then copy to disk. You run the risk of corrupting a file by writing directly to disk that way, and you might not find out until the next time you open the file, and by that time it would be too late to save the original.

I think The_ALL is asking why Photoshop gives the error:

But photoshop 7.0 give me an error."can’t write on disk, change windows permission".

Yet other programs seem to write to CDRW fine. I don’t know the answer, but I have a feeling it’s for the same reasons that some USB hard drives aren’t recognized as scratch disks by photoshop – it depends on how the OS deals with the drive.

Photoshop is going to stress a system like no other commercial app. Those that have used Photoshop for some time have found that writing to ANY external media, including USB Hard drives is "iffy". Even if you didn’t get the error message, you would do well to heed the advice of both Larry and Vio8ion – you are only asking for problems writing to removable media.

Some people write directly to external USB hard drives without issue, others don’t. The safest way to work, error or not, is to avoid removable media for direct writes to disk.

Additionally, you need to consider that most CD-RWs utilise a UDF packet writer, as a "driver" to make the CD-RW look like a hard drive. The packet writer that comes with Easy CD Creator is DirectCD, and it runs in the background – when you insert an appropriately formatted CD-RW, DirectCD grabs the disk, and then interfaces with the OS.

The error message is probably coming about due to a conflict with Photoshop and DirectCD’s ownership of the disk.

The_ALL,

Are you sure you have tried this with other apps since moving to XP? Are you logged in with an administrative account. XP is capable of locking down CD recorders so they can’t write data unless your user account has permission.
