My brother is in town and asked me to photograph a scene on a bowl. The bowl is about 10 inches wide…the scene goes around the whole thing. He thought we might photograph it in multiple pictures and then stitch it together in PS. The difficulty, of course, is that the bowl is round…the pictures are distorted.

Any ideas on how to do this? Could I bring them into PS CS and have PS stitch them together? Would PS get rid of the distortions a bit? This doesn’t have to be great or anything… he’s just putting it on a card for my sister along with a description of the scene and the history of the 200 year old bowl.

Thanks much for your help…

This is best done the hard way, by taking a lot of small cuts from the pictures, and rotating them so they all are at right angles to the axis. That is what an artist drawing on a plate would do. It would be a few hours of work, and I doubt you will find anyone has programmed a plug in to do the work automatically (if it was possible).

Make a file with a picture piece on each layer, rotated to what you think is proper. You might want to make a layer that has a bunch of spokes on it to use to line up the pictures (and delete it when you are done).

Sounds like a nice afternoon’s work.

Many Feathers,

You need special image stitching software for projects like this. For an overview, see:
