I was wondering if anyone would be able to answer this question? I do graphics for a local rockband and I need a good thumbnailer program that can not only show thumbnails of .jpg’s, but of .psd’s, and .ai’s. I haven’t spent much time w/ Photoshop’s file viewer (I have 5.5 and Illustrator 9) so I’m not up on it’s uses.

Or is their a simple & easier to use fileviewer bundled in the CS (Photoshop & Illustrator?)

I thank-you for your input.

Must be getting pretty late, I’m seeing double. Wow, 5AM?! 😉

Anyway, my choice would be XnView (for freeware).

ThumbsPlus for shareware and color-corrected images. Plus it’s got a "loupe" for quick view at the details (that’s my favourite).

Some say IrfanView, but I dread it’s rather ugly interface. But that’s a matter of taste. It’s a good viewer. IrVw is fuckin’ slow at generating thumbnails, tho.

XnView is very fast and it’s got lots of options you need for quick image management. Plus it’s free. Hecate might give you some info on ThubsPlus. She seems to be a ThumbsPlus Advocate around here. 😉

Check http://www.xnview.com/ or http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pierre.g/ for XnView.

LOL! TP is great if you have a lot of images which you catalogue and require a database which is accessible through Access and SQl calls if necessary (it’s fully exportable into Access tables). it’s a bit of overkill if you a few hundred images and image retrieval using keywords and so forth isn’t necessary.

Otherwise, I’#d suggest you go with Branko’s suggestion. I too, am less than keen on IrfanView, but lots of people like it, so try it. 🙂

OK OK I’ll try Thumbs… <downloading now>
Irfan is awful for thumbs but super speedy launching from explorer & dismissed with one tap on the escape key. Super fast for batch re-sizing. I have it set as the default app & use a keystroke to launch PS from there. ACD See 4 is great for browsing thumb folders but buggy. The ability to drag & drop thumbs to re-sort then re-name is very useful.

OK I see Thumbs is slower loading thumbnails so the database is the key feature. It has a better IPTC editor than XnView, none have EXIF editing ability (that’s where all the camera info is kept). It just seems more reliable to me to use embedded info like one of those rather than a database but this looks pretty good.

Yes.. TP is *not* a file viewer. it’s a database which allows you to view, organise, etc. One of the most useful features of the database is it’s ability to read and store offline media such as CD’s DVDs removable drives, etc. It means that you can search the database and only have to load up the removable media when you actually need to load the image. And the fact that it’s a database allows for fast searches, keywording, etc. If that’s what you need then it’s great and worth every penny. If all you need is a file viewer then I wouldn’t advise TP as a first choice.
