Hi. I recently obtained Adobe Photoshop 7.0 on a burned disc and installed it on Windows XP. I downloaded the version 7.0.1 patch and went through everything. I was about to install it and there was an error message saying "The Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 upgrade cannot find Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in C:\program files\adobe\photoshop 7.0\ Please attempt to locate Adobe Photoshop again or cancel the update and install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from the original disks or CD." I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and the same thing happened. Could this be because I have a burned CD? I also did not uninstall any files in other folders during uninstallation when I was given the choice. Any help would be appreciated.

OMG. Did you hit any branches as you fell out of the Stupid Tree? The village called, they’re looking for their idiot. Better call home.

No joke. The fire that burned his CD probably disturbed the coding on the CD. Perfectly reasonable. 😉

If you’ll post your address and phone number an Adobe representative will visit you personally to straighten you out.

Merry Christmas!

Yeah silly. It’s an "upDATE" not an "upGRADE".

I still say this has to be a joke. If someone were really dumb enough to admit stealing a copy of a program in the first line of their first post to the pirated software manufacturers website, they’re too stupid to use a computer in the first place. Hence this troll MUST be a fake. Natural selection usually weeds out people who are THAT stupid.

Steven, in the incredulous case that you’re NOT a fake, do you realize that it’s illegal to steal software and that you (or your parents) can be fined and or sent to jail? Especially when you admit it openly on the forums of the software company you stole the software from? Better delete it from your system immediately and break the disk before the software police (google "BSA") come knocking at your door and confiscate all your equipment as evidence.

Re: Sent to jail?

Not likely for using a burned disk. But he could lose his computer and be forced to pay a fine several times what the software costs are.

…. not likely, depending on what other "burned" software they find on there.

Steven,
Sorry everyone seems to be so hard on you. I think its great that any one tries to get there feet wet with Adobe Photoshop. I recently had to up grade my PC win98 to win Xp because my upgrade from PS 7.0 to Photoshop CS wouldn’t work on windows 98. Its always something. I had no problems when I installed the update for ps 7.0 that you are refering to. When I installed PS CS I had a few problems, but I managed to work them out. Now everything is working like a charm.

Well, I’m not. He’s a thief. Perhaps if he broke into your house and stole your television, you’d let that slide, too?

BTW, that XP upgrade you spoke of. I certainly hope you installed it on top of the existing operating system.

A case of mistaken identity. This is the actual Adobe forums, not the hackers’ spoof site. :O

What an idiotic thing to say. You know, I think it’s great that people like to learn to play guitar, but I don’t advocate that they go an steal one in order to get started. What’s the difference between that and stealing Photoshop in order to "get there [sic] feet wet?"
