Best way to slice is in ImageReady. Open it and look at help files.

Open ImageReady.
Under Guides, take Create Guides.
Then under Slices, take Create Slices from Guides.
Save Optimized.
Done.

Simple enough?

John’s suggestion is the best way. First drag guides and then create slices from guides. Use the Slice Select tool to name the slices with proper naming conventions–no_spaces and probably no CAPS. Add layer styles to links for rollovers and rename those slices something like home_over.jpg. Saving for Web as HTML and Images creates an HTML page as well as an image folder.

Peadge 🙂

It’s easier than that, I think. You can set the naming conventions under export preferences and you don’t have to manually slice if all you want to do is break up the picture in even parts.

I usually slice my page into three main sections–main navigation, header and content. The content I leave as one big chunk that is eventually deleted and replaced with a background color (HTML) in Dreamweaver. The navigational links are further sliced into individual links and layer effects are applied for rollover effects. the header may be sliced further should it contain page specific graphics.

But virtually all slicing is done through the "Slices from Guides" button in the Options bar. However, I often need to manually drag one slice out for the entire content and delete those that become redundant…just to limit the number in the image folder. Often, the two main remaining sections (Header and Navigation) are placed inside tables in their own layers in Dreamweaver.
