I have a pic (actually, lots of pics) of a piece of furniture surrounded by white…… I’ve cropped it so the chair is in the center, etc. …… now … I want to submit it to the shop for printing ….. so I’d like to size it to 8×10 proportional before I do this….with white fill if it’s too tall or wide …….

Is there an easy way to do this … that doesn’t require thinking… calculation….tricky formulas ???????

If I could specify the proportions for the crop command …. I could enlarge the canvas and then crop with the right proportions …. but the crop command doesn’t seem to do this …. ???

……

Use the Image Size command to size it so that the length or width (whichever is greater) is correct, then use Canvas Size to bring the image to 8×10.

Size the image appropriately (the furniture, not the background) to proper size and resolution. Create clipping mask around object (to create transparency when dropped into a page layout app). Save as EPS (preserve the clipping mask) and drop the image into a page layout program. For an even easier way: place the photo as a PSD into Illustrator. Illustrator will observe and keep PSD transparancy. Print from Illustrator.

Just to make it challenging … I’d like to do it without interpolating pixels ….. ie. first enlarge the canvas and then crop to 8×10 without resizing (although I just realized the print shop will interpolate ….. so….. I guess I can interpolate) ….

Thanks,
