Hi all,

A friend of my daughter’s took a lot of pictures of my daughter holding her snake. The pictures are great, very well composed and good lighting. However, my daughter lips appear very dry and pale. How do I add color or even make it look like she has on lips gloss?

I made a new layer and adjusted the layer for color only to darken her lips. However, no matter what color I choose, it turns an odd looking shade.

I opened a picture of her with lip gloss on and tried to duplicate the highlights but it looks more like a commercial for "got milk"? 🙂

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!

Thanks

Suzi

Paint with a very light brush ( low opacity) and build up the effect

First, work at at least 200% magnification.

Color: Select the lips and add a hue/saturation adjustment layer. Increase the saturation a bit. You might also want to decrease the brightness and/or tweak the hue. This should give you natural-looking lips. If you want more of a lipsticky effect, you might add a color balance layer or paint with a soft brush set to color blending mode and low opacity.

Highlights: Try the dodge tool with range set to highlights and a moderate exposure. If no effect, change range to midtones. If that’s still not glossy enough, the sharpen tool in lighten mode might help. Or a curves layer.

If you do a lot of this, you would probably enjoy the book, "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, 2nd ed." by Katrin Eismann and Doug Nelson, 2003, ISBN: 0735713502, New Riders Publishing

You can also

1. Add new layer
2. change layer mode to color
3. Use paintbrush and select color and paint over lips.
4. dodge/burn layer by creating a new layer and setting it to overlay and fill wil 50% gray, then use white/black to lighten/darken areas

You can also invest in some chapstick. I keep one in my car door at al times for impromptu photo shoots
